A TREATMENT FOR ADULTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS, IN ADDITION TO DIET AND EXERCISEStarting the XIGDUO XR Dialogue With Your Patients

IMPORTANT TALKING POINTS AND RESOURCES FOR YOUR PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

Managing your patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus requires more than just the right prescription. It also requires ongoing communication and support. This section contains important topics to discuss with patients for whom XIGDUO XR may be appropriate and links to additional resources for you and your patients.

1 XIGDUO XR may be considered for patients who:
  • Need improvement in A1C levels beyond monotherapy1,*
  • Could also benefit from weight reduction1

XIGDUO XR is not indicated for weight loss.

*Metformin XR or dapagliflozin.

2 How XIGDUO XR works may be important for your patients to know. XIGDUO XR:
  • Combines the experience of metformin XR with the innovation of a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor1
  • Reduces and removes glucose with complementary MOAs1
  • Was the first SGLT2 inhibitor + metformin combination therapy available in extended-release for once-daily dosing1
3 The benefits that patients may experience with XIGDUO XR could be encouraging. XIGDUO XR provides:
  • Greater reduction in A1C levels1,†
  • Weight and blood pressure reductions1
  • Convenient once-daily dosing1

XIGDUO XR is not indicated for weight loss or the treatment of hypertension.

Vs Metformin or dapagliflozin.

Hypotension: Dapagliflozin causes intravascular volume contraction, and symptomatic hypotension can occur. Assess and correct volume status before initiating XIGDUO XR in patients with impaired renal function, elderly patients, or patients on loop diuretics. Monitor for hypotension.

4 It is important to understand that XIGDUO XR is NOT appropriate for everyone:
  • XIGDUO XR should not be used in patients with a history of a serious hypersensitivity reaction to dapagliflozin or hypersensitivity to metformin hydrochloride1
  • XIGDUO XR should not be used in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma1
  • Patients should be informed of the potential risks and benefits of XIGDUO XR, including common adverse reactions as well as serious side effects. They should be instructed to read the Medication Guide before starting treatment with XIGDUO XR and to reread it each time the prescription is renewed
5 Eligible patients can save on their prescriptions with the XIGDUO XR Savings Card:
